Ewart about to enter Wales, at the Severn Bridge

It probably should be three words: Jubilee wash-out.  It started with drizzle and our wind gilets and arm warmers were perfect, but by the first stop at around midday, we needed waterproofs and the rain did not stop.

The word of the day could also have been “Bridges” because we crossed the Clifton and the Severn bridges.  The views were, er, a little obscured by the low cloud and drizzle, but to cycle over either bridge is not something I expect to do again.  So a tick in that box!

Our first stop was at St Arvans where Duncan had secured the car park and facilities of the church hall.  Unfortunately because of the rain, the Brownies church parade was sharing the hall with the preparation of community lunch which was supposed to be being held outside and our wet clothing was not very welcome!

Our second stop was at the Wormelow Cricket Club where there was an awning over the entrance to the changing rooms that served very well to shelter us while we had lunch.  The remaining 21 miles of the ride was done as quickly as possible in the rain, most of us getting wetter and wetter.  We arrived at the hotel to find 4 rooms for 15 of us with the boys having to share a couple of double beds too.  Steve’s snoring apparently kept lots of people awake last night, so negotiations have taken place to move him and one other to the ball room.  I am providing ear-plugs to that unlucky person.
